Our plan was to arrive at our accomodation, the White Horse Inn, in time for lunch. However, due to backtracking because paths on the map no longer existed on the ground, we arrived at 2.30 pm to locked doors. Desperate to check in earlier than the emailed 5.00 pm time, on a chilly day with nothing to do in the village, we looked around the back to be greeted by the polite English "can I help you" (generally code for "what are you doing on my private property"). "We have a room booked tonight, could we check in?" Keith said hopefully. "Check in time is 5.00 pm" was the reply. "We are closed now". "I'll check with my husband"... "OK you can check in, I'll show you to your room but you will have to look after yourself, we have to go out" "The bar opens at 5.30 dinner starts at 6.30"
After lunch in the room from food from the shop accross the street we had a nice bath and a good rest before dinner.
