Day 40: Melbourn to Linton

A wonderful day's walking. The sky was blue, the breeze was cool and the terrain was fairly flat with just enough undulation to reduce monotony. Spring had well and truly sprung, the three words for today are birds, bluebells and barley (well I don't know if the cereal crop was barley but it makes the alliteration work). We followed the Icknield Way

through rape

and cereal crops.

Through villages,

 farmyards

(where we interrupted lunch),

and woodland resplendent with a carpet of bluebells.

here's a closer look.

Just to add contrast we walked over a footbridge over the M11 motorway so we could feel sorry for those forced to live life in the fast lane?

The birds sang to us along the way and the wild flowers were an absolute picture

Along the way we walked through Essex (county number 11)

Then back into Cambridgeshire for the night.
