Day 53: Ely to Welney

What a great day. It might be Spring but today's weather was Summer! We planned a short walk today so had a leisurely breakfast before checking out some of the history of Ely. The famous and beautiful Ely Cathedral was literally next door: so we checked that out first.

Then on past Oliver Cromwells house

and then on through the village and out into the countryside with a last look behind toward the spire of the Cathedral fading into the distance.

The ubiquitous (in this part of Britain anyway) Rape crops and cereal crops abounded,

flanked by the drainage ditches that allow them to survive in the fen country.

We stopped for a rest and this little ladybug mistook Keith for a flower... I can't see the likeness myself lol!

Then on past Suspension Bridge, the Hamlet where our B&B is, to Welney where the Lamb and Flag is situated. As it is a holiday for Easter Monday, the pub is closed for Dinner but was open for lunch so we had decided to swap our eating around and have our main meal at lunch time. And very nice it was too. Then following a chat with the other patrons in this very friendly pub we strolled back down the road to our B&B in a converted Old Schoolhouse. LOVELY!
