Day 48: Lowestoft to Bungay

Soooooo .... We reached the Eastermost tip of England and now there is nowhere to go but West. Well we could start to head North West but the coast has a bit of a bulge here and with the fen country being criss-crossed with drainage ditches to enable the draining of the ground for agriculture it would be a very long trek. There is therefore nothing for it but to retrace our steps until we can begin to head north.  There are only a couple of days where we follow the Angles Way in the opposite direction and then we can pick up a different trail and so have some variety. As we set off from Lowestoft it seemed very strange to be heading away from the rising sun instead of towards it but we soon got used to it.
We enjoyed the Norfolk/Suffolk broads, they were more picturesque than we had anticipated.

And the inhabitants were friendly....

Mother swan had just swum off to get something to eat and that gave us a good view of this clutch of very large eggs.

The sheep looked on in wonder as we toddled past

and this butterfly posed prettily for us.

We stopped in Beccles for lunch and that marked the end of the Broads: so we were back to the cereal and rape crops until we reached our B&B in Bungay.
