Day 63: Barnsley to Oulton

A mizzley drizzley start to the day as we left Barnsley on the last day of the first half of our walk. Oh how we are looking forward to a bit of rest before our final push north.

We continued where we left off yesterday, along the Trans Pennine Trail.

The walk took us past some fairly built up areas but stayed mainly in the countryside. We passed another old colliery site that had been converted to a nature reserve.

The mist and mizzle persisted and turned farms into magical places

and the locals came to chat despite the weather.

The trail lead through a lovely bluebell wood and the mist lifted for a while adding to our enjoyment.

We then walked along the canal side and lo and behold: a narrow boat flying an Australian flag!!!

Making good time, mainly because it was too damp to sit for very long, we phoned Keith's sister to come a little earlier to pick us up. A fatal mistake! Once we left the well signed Trans Penine Way life became more difficult. Paths were definitely not where they were supposed to be; thus delaying us.

Then we were scurrying along to make up lost time and we missed our turn, which had been cunningly disguised as a large boulder, and had to retrace our steps once we realised our mistake. All was not lost however, we did arrive at our designated meeting place, a little tired and more than a little bedraggled and 15 minutes late. But the first half of our epic is over and we are going to North Yorkshire for a few days R&R. Aaaaaahhhhhh!
