Day 68: Leeds to Otley

IA pleasant day's walk starting off with a stroll through the centre of Leeds which is a busy with a sense of bustle and modernity. There is a vibrancy and an interesting juxtaposition of old and new.

Passing the University we soon reached the Dale's Way link and exchanged the bustle and activity of the city for the quiet of woodlands.

We followed a pretty stream,

along the Mean Valley,

and passed a little glade guarded by an outcrop of rocks that looked for all the world like a huge face.

The wild flowers were in abundance.

Then on, into agricultural land where the locals were busy at lunch.

As we walked back into the woodlands there were lovely woodcarvings,

and quiet glades.

Then on up the escarpment where the views over Otley were spectacular.

We climbed down to the campground and our digs for the night. As rain was forecast and packing a wet tent into the backpack is no fun, we decided to stay in one of the little wooden huts for the night. It was most comfortable and smelled deliciously of fresh cut wood. We slept well!
