Day 76: Longthwaite to Keswick

A relatively short walk today; and another enjoyable one! Setting off in warm but cloudy conditions,

the moisture in the air served initially to cool us as we walked. However the high humidity soon had us sweating and stripping off our jumpers. Wishing a fond goodbye to our new friends

we set off alongside the River Derwent and  crossed over using the strategically placed stepping stones.

The Cumbrian Way led us away from the river and up through a peaceful woodland where the Cuckoos let us know what they thought of us.

The views, again were breathtaking

and the little hamlet of Grange caught our attention as we wandered past.

and on through the Dale

Although we did not climb to a grea height today (we mainly followed along the river as it weaved it's way through Borrowdale) we did gain sufficient height to appreciate Derwent Water as it came into view.

As the path dropped down toward the lake we decided to leave the high path and opt instead for a delightful stroll along the Lakeside to Keswick which lies at the top of Derwent Water.

It was nap-time for some of the locals as we approached Keswick

and, as the famous pencils bear the same name as the lake (Derwent), we were not surprised as we entered the village of Keswick to discover a Pencil Museum lol.
