Day 69: Otley to Appletreewick

From the campground we were almost straight onto the trail and up through the farmyards

where the babies were in abundance.

One was so ready to play it was jumping on Mum to try to encourage her.

Gate closing devices were just as ingenious in Yorkshire as in other parts of the country.

We were soon very aware that we were in the Dales as we climbed higher, but the views made the climb well worthwhile

and as we climbed up over Burley Moor  and then Ilkley Moor we were reminded of why we love walking in this part of the world.

Once we passed through the town of Ilkley, and past a specially designed seat:

the track followed the River  Wharfe along the beautiful Wharfe Dale,

and through the outskirts of the pretty town of Addingham with lanes lined by stone walls.

The river was in full spate as it rushed past the beautiful dales farms with their stone barns,

and interesting styles.

The views became more and more spectacular as the River rushed on past the ruins of Bolton Abbey

and we crossed the bridge and continued to climb on up towards our destination.

The clouds opened and the rain put paid to our photography but not to the enjoyment of our walk as we continued on up Wharfe Dale to Appletreewick and our digs for the night with this spectacular view from our bedroom window
