Day 75: Grasmere to Longthwaite

A superb day, definitely T-shirt weather! Although hardened fell walkers would not be impressed with yesterday or today's walks we are happy to scramble up these lower fells and gaze longingly at the higher, more grandiose ones in the distance. Today, after wishing goodbye to the little roe deer that was grazing in the hostel grounds,

we set off past Lancrigg (bottom right of the map)

and followed Easdale Gill up the slope looking at the path ahead as it wound up to the left of the Gill.

We stopped at the little waterfalls to have a drink of the cold, clear water

and to enjoy the view of where we had come from before continuing on up the hill

to Greenup Edge, where we paused to enjoy the view, take some photos and treat ourselves to a piece of chocolate.

We then started the long, steep clamber down over Lining Crag where we could see Derwent Water in the distance (a view of tomorrow's delights)

and on down towards Greenup Gill

pausing to look back up the slope that we had just scrambled down

reaching the Gill, we followed it to Stonethwaite Beck

and then to the River Derwent and our hostel at Longthwaite!
