Day 71: Hubberholme to Dent

The word for today is WATER. It fell from the sky, it oozed out of the ground, it ran down the path and it  ran past us in the rivers and streams. We left the small hamlet of Hubberholme along the road with a quick glance back the way we came in.

As we crossed the bridge we left the road and followed the Dale's way along Upper Wharfe Dale and
climbed up the Dale with its iconic stone barns and stone walls,

and picturesque stone bridges.

The river is still in spate but getting smaller as we climbed steadily towards its source.

The climb was wet and hard but invigorating and the views were well worth the effort. The river became smaller and smaller... Hard to believe it was the large torrent of a couple of days ago.

Then as we looked back over the stone walls the view was to die for and not done justice by the camera.

Then: the top and a meeting of ways, where the Dale Way meets the Pennine Way!

And the streams all start to run to the West instead of the East.

Despite the rain and the clouds we could make out the three peaks in the distance,

and if you look really carefully you can just lick out the Riibble Dale viaduct in the distance through the rain and cloud (for those Harry Potter fans Ribblehead station and the via duct feature in the movies).

Then, as we headed over the top and toward our next Dale, the views were just as stunning with another viaduct to add interest.

Then into Dent Dale and the River Dee which we followed along the Dale and to our destination, the gorgeous little village of Dent,

ending our journey in our next county of Cumbria after a 32 km, very hard but satisfying day.
