Day 70: Appletreewick to Hubberholme

Again we followed the Dales Way today. The scenery was to die for but the weather was, in a word, WET! We were still following Wharfe Dale and walking alongside the River Wharfe.

There were lambs everywhere and these were happy to shelter by the drystone wall out of the rain (I would have liked to join them).

The river was still in Spate and very wild in parts,

especially as we approached the little village of Grassington.

From Grassington we left the riverside and climbed up the side of the Dale for about 10 km where the scenery became more rugged and remote and with the wind and rain we felt as though we were in a Bronte novel.

Then, as we came over the top we glimpsed Upper Wharfe Dale in the distance and, Yahoo! what seemed like a break in the clouds as we dropped down towards Kettlewell.

From there, the weather improved and the terrain became less gruelling as we again followed the River Wharfe along the bank all the way to Hubberholme and this lovely view from our bedroom window.
