Day 1: The Lizard to Porthleven

The first day dawned ominously with strong winds and rain beating against the window of the Blue Anchor Inn. We stepped outside and huddled in our wet weather gear to await the 0815 #37 bus to Lizard Village. A tile fell from the roof of the house opposite as we waited, and waited for the bus that never came. Fortunately the 0846 bus did appear and we were off. Yahoo! Our adventure has begun.
From Lizard village we ventured down to Lizard Point (Britain's most southerly and the first of our scheduled six points)

Leaving Lizard Point we fought the elements to follow the South West Coastal Path. The weather was wild but that only added to the magnificent scenery... At one point the wind gusts were so strong Lynne had to hang onto a brick wall to avoid being blown off her feet lol.

At a distance of 7 km we detoured to Mullion to seek a little respite from the wind and much needed sustenance at a chocolate factory (where else lol). After lunch the rain had eased off but the head wind was still strong and it brought little sparkles of hail to add to our discomfort. Our pace was painfully slow with two steps forward and one step back as we forged on bravely lol.

We returned to the South West Coastal path at Poldhu Cove and continued on our merry way reaching Porthleven in time for tea... Despite our concerns that we may not get there before dark. A warm welcome at the Copper Kettle B&B and a comfy bed completed day one.
