Day 21: Barnstaple to Brayford

The weather forcast was not just for rain today but.. For "heavy rain"! So we set off relatively early and stepped it out as the day had dawned fairly bright but cloudy. We followed the Tarka trail along the riverbank out of Barnstaple

The Tatka trail is named for Tarka the otter from the book of the same name by Henry Williamson. Hence the trail markers display an otter's footprint replacing the acorn of the Coastal Path.

The walking was relatively easy as we followed the river around through Bishops Tawton and then followed the stream gently uphill to Gunn

and left the stream to follow little lanes to Brayford

arriving at our destination by lunch time..... Just ahead of the rain! Whooo Hoooo. Little Bray House was a gorgeous, rambling old home set in gently rolling farmland with a great view from the window seat in the bedroom...

The huge front door opened out to a large entrance hall containing an old racing car which Chris had restored :) Our hosts were just wonderful and as there was nowhere to eat in the village they invited us to dine with them in the large farm kitchen warmed by the huge AGA stove. Most enjoyable!
