Day 18: Hartland to Horns Cross

What a great day! We both woke still tired even after a good nights sleep and had a bit of a late start. We had decided last night to divide our planned day into two as we were still feeling the strain of the particularly hard day to Hartland. We walked the lanes and paths from Hartland to get us back to the coast at the delightful village of Clovelly with its steep narrow cobbled lanes down to the port.

You would think we would know better but we couldn't resist a walk down to the bottom of the village even though we had to walk back up to the top to rejoin the coastal path.
But a pleasant surprise awaited us: the path followed Hobby's Lane and so steep gullies that appeared on the map were actually traversed by bridges....

....he he! take that contours!!! Looking back we could see Clovelly harbour:

The scenery was gorgeous and offered a difference from that previously in Cornwall. The cliffs were not as high and were wooded rather than the open meadowland and rocky crags we have become used to.

The sun was shining but it was not too hot for walking and we thouroughly enjoyed our walk.... Though there were still some relatively steep climbs just to stop us from becoming complacent. Look to the left and there is the sea..

Look to the right and there are woodlands..

At Bucks Mills we again turned inland to find an old pub, a shower, a beer and a good feed before bed. Aaaahhhhh!
