Day 23: Simonsbath to Minehead

Well the weather Gods and the walking Gods have really conspired today lol. We woke to find a dusting of snow outside and set of in a clear, crisp morning. The sun was shining but it was quite cold... A good day to walk. The snow was beautiful  and gave a magic feel to the whole day.

However, the Gods were snickering up their sleeves as we descended down a steep valley... Contours had done her worst and that beautiful covering of snow hid the path and also covered mud bogs ... A real trap for young players (and an old couple too). But we made it down the valley and picked up the MacMillan Way.

I had noticed the sign on some farm gates yesterday and thought this guy Mac owned a lot of property duh!

The views were gorgeous both quaint

and rural

The weather Gods hadn't quite finished with us and the sun hid behind a big back cloud, the temperature dropped and down came the hail

It was short lived however and the sun soon came back. We climbed to our highest point for the day at Dunkery Beacon. It was awesome!!!

We could see for miles in all directions and if you look closely at the horizon in the following pic you can see Wales and the chimneys of Cardiff.

After a climb up there inevitably comes the steep walk down and today was no exception. The path was a corker! All rocks and water lol. But when we reached the bottom we found ourselves in a gorgeous little wood and stopped for lunch. Haaaaah!

There was one more long climb up a muddy bridle path and then a pleasant walk down through the Forrest to Minehead and a good rest... Then to the pub lol.
