Although the coast was never too far away and as we climbed higher, we could look back to the northerly coast
and forward toward the Southerly coast
We forged on our way checking the map as we went, unfortunately, although higher Bosullow and lowere Bosullow were there on the ground, Bosullow Common, which marked our turning point, was not! So on we trudged not realising until too late that we had missed our turn. Every cloud has a silver lining they say and ours was that by missing our turn we got to see Lanyon Quoit, or what we dubed: Aslans Table, which is an ancient funeral site dating to Neolithic times.
The ubiquitous tin mines were still in abundance of course
and as we approached one there was a guy with a Hawk. I know the tin mines date back to the 1800s but with my O2 saturations down it was not difficult to imagine we had been transported back to medieval times and the mine was really a Medieval Castle with the falconer loosing a bird to retrieve his hunting kill.... That's my story anyway lol
From then on the ground became more boggy as we tried to cut down tracks to get back on course. But then we came upon another ancient site: an ancient ruin of an Iron Age settlement.
Wow! It was most impressive, treading the same ground that an ancient people had lived. But we soon came crashing back to earth with even more mud... So deep that at one point Lynne's foot squelched down so deep the mud ran inside the boot Ughhh! We had planned to stop for a drink and something to eat at the pub at Cripplesease. However there was no ease to be had for these two old cripples as the pub, though the door was standing open, was more like the Marie Celeste than a Public House and we could not raise anyone to serve us. Oh well, nothing for it but to trudge on... Or in Lynne's case, squelch on. But the going got easier form there and we reached the outskirts of Lelant and a lovely little cafe that served hot drinks, carrot cake, and, your never going to believe this: Coopers Ale! So refreshed and with some chilli chocolate for the road we covered the last couple of Km with a spring in our step, arriving at the Badgers Inn in time for a rest and shower before a well earned dinner.
Great photo of the hawk! Looks like a National Geographic photo :) sounds like this was a good day. We are thinking about you both! xx
