Day 22: Brayford to Simmonsbath

Another short day as we had decided in Barnstaple that rather than having a day off we would have two short days and given the weather that turned out to be a wise decision! Yesterday the clouds opened after we reached our digs and it was much better watching the rain from the window seat than walking through it lol. Today dawned clear and bright though quite cool. It was a pleasant surprise to look out the window and see large expanses of clear blue sky and white fluffy clouds. As we set off we noticed ominous black clouds in the distance heading towards us but never-the-less we set off with a spring in our step. Out of Brayford we followed the Tarka trail through pretty woodlands

and then up, and up and up ... but not too steeply we made our way onto Exmoor.

Great walking and apart from one short, sharp hailstorm as the blackclouds scuttled over us, we walked in lovely sunshine protected from the cold breeze for the most part by the hedgerows.

Just to add icing to the cake, as we approached Simmonsbath we spied some wild Exmoor ponies grazing: a great day!
