Day 14: Port Isaac to Trebarwith

We started the day with mixed feelings: anxious about the terrain as we had been told of the difficulty of the route; and excitement about the scenery we would get to see. We set off from Port Isaac through the mist

We were convinced that the mist would burn off quite quickly but the walking gods had their eyes on us again and the mist continued, and continued. As we walked along the cliffs we could hear the surf boiling noisily below us but all we could see as we looked down over the edge was a swirling mist. Navigation was OK as the way was generally well marked but it was a bit disconcerting as we headed down one particularly steep path the ground dropped away steeply on both sides and we could not see any contextual references through the mist. But all was OK as we walked up and up and up. Then down, down down: over and over again! With no opportunities for photographs we arrived early at our hotel and so settled down to check our emails and enjoy a well earned pint.
Then came the good, no, excellent news: the iphone I dropped at Portreath had been found and handed in to the local police station. YIPPEEE! I rang the central number (as you cannot reach the local station directly) and they put me through. It must have been my accent, or something, but after I had explained about my phone, the very confused bobby asked "who told you your mother was here at the police station". We began again and he agreed to forward said phone, not mother, to Barnstaple where we can pick it up in a few days time. Hooray!
