Day 25: Crowcombe to Bridgwater

I forgot to mention that a couple of days ago, somewhere between Simonsbath and Minehead we quietly slipped out of Devon and into Somerset... Our third Conunty so far. But back to last night... when we arrived at the Pub for the night we discovered that they do not serve food on Sunday night but the barmaid said she would give us a lift back to the Notley where we had coffee earlier for dinner and we could get a cab back. Unfortunately they did not start serving till 7.30 so we were in for a bit of a wait and also a later night than we wanted. We were feeling a bit disappointed when back came the barmaid to tell us that as there was a skittles championship that night and they were serving "light bites" so we could stay in after all. Yay! Then it got even better coz they offered to bring it up to our room for us... Fish and chips sitting up in bed... Doesn't get any more decadent than that (not for us anyway).

I opened the curtains this morning and there was a pretty white frost on the grass of the field next door and when we went down to breakfast we could watch the lambs playing together in the field... Lovely!

We are in the Quantocks and so the day began with a climb. But boy was it worth it! On reaching the top we had magnificent views

And what was better, the path then followed the ridge along and so not much more climbing

We followed the ridge along for quite a while

and then descended down following lanes and footpaths, some muddier than others

Believe it or not we passed a field with a couple of emu! (You can see them of you put your glasses on and look just up from the centre of the picture)

Then just past Goatshurst we picked up the Samaritan way

and then on into Bridgwater and despite the weather forecast being for rain in the afternoon, once again we were ahead of it: so we walked in lovely sunshine... Though the breeze was fresh and the temperature cool... Good walking weather. And now for a days rest YIPPEEE!
